A new beginning
by Clair D. Urbain
The new year always
makes me take a brief look at the year just past and then plot my
plan for the coming year. Most of the time, it results in a
direction and a purpose in what I do and usually takes me in the
right direction personally and professionally.
From a professional
perspective, it always reinforces my commitment to provide readers
with helpful information about tools, supplies and processes that
can help them do their jobs more effectively.
Just before the new
year, I was presented with the opportunity to become publisher of
the construction magazines, Contractor Tools and Supplies and
Construction Purchasing. If anything, this opportunity
redoubles my effort and commitment to providing helpful information
to the commercial construction market.
My duties will still
include crafting the editorial product of these magazines, but I
will also be much more involved in the business aspects of the
publications. It’s a bit like being beckoned to become a jobsite
superintendent after years of working as a jobsite foreman. It’s an
honor and a tremendous responsibility.
I have grown to love the
world of commercial construction. Perhaps it’s because of the great
people I have met within the industry. Our readers are very
hard-working, intelligent individuals who take great pride in
building the great projects that are underway today.
In the coming year, I
hope to continue to improve all aspects of these magazines to better
serve you, our reader. After all, you are our reason for existence.
We are your link to timely information that can help you do your
jobs faster, better and more efficiently. We will continue to be an
interesting and helpful conduit of information about new products,
tools, supplies and ideas that can help you in your quest to do jobs
on time and under budget.
We are all busy people,
but if there is something that you have a question about, or an
observation regarding our magazine, please don’t hesitate to call me
or send me an e-mail. Your insight into the world of construction
can be very valuable in helping us stay on the track of providing
you the right information you need to work effectively and safely.
Are you doing something
differently in the coming year? Is it in an effort to become more
efficient in building? More effective in planning? Safer in any
aspect of what you do? Please let us know about it. It helps us stay
on track with what’s important to you and allows us to share some
best practice ideas with our other readers.
As we enter into 2007,
think about the new beginnings and opportunities you may have and
how you will capitalize on them.
Wishing you health,
prosperity and safety in the coming year!
Published in the
January/February 2007 issue
of Contractor Tools and Supplies magazine.
